December 2012 Hot Button of the Month Winner!


December's Hot Button of the Month Contest Winner is…Jason from Calgary, Alberta, Canada.. Jason created this "Today A Reader, Tomorrow A Leader" design to promote a Graphic Novel/Comic Literary Program. He had an amazing response from kids and teachers. "We now have 1000 Native youth excited for literacy," Jason said. "It can't get much better than that!"

Jason noted orders for more than 1000 buttons were placed before he even started producing the buttons.

As the Hot Button of the Month winner, Jason received a $100 Badge-A-Minit gift certificate.

November 2012 Hot Button of the Month Winner!


November's Hot Button of the Month Contest Winner is...Laurel Van Leer from Girl Scouts of East Brunswick, NJ.. Laurel's "I survived Hurricane Sandy 2012" was a hands-on activity for local Girl Scouts to help with Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. They made the buttons and gave them away to victims and sold them to raise funds for relief.

"The funds raised will be donated to our local Girl Scout camp which was damaged in the storm, largely by downed trees that deforested some of the hiking areas and crashed onto buildings in two of the camping site," Laurel said.

"We raised about $200," Laurel said. "But the money was not the primary goal. The Girl Scouts - all ages K-12 - felt empowered by being able to do something to help."

As the Hot Button of the Month winner, Laurel received a $100 Badge-A-Minit gift certificate.

October's Hot Button of the Month Contest Winner is…Tyler Batchelder from Methuen, MA.. Tyler created the GLEC Monsters button as an extra treat for his students at the school's "Trunk-O-Treat" Halloween event.

"Trunk-O-Treat" is an annual event - staffmembers from each classroom provide their cars, which are parked in a circle around the playground and decorated with a classroom Halloween theme. Students go trick-or-treating from car-to-car for candy and other goodies.

"The buttons were very well received by the kids, and the staff got a kick out of it too!" Tyler said. "Some of the other classrooms were a little jealous, so I promised them a set for their next special occasions. All of this enthusiasm is great to see!"

September's Hot Button of the Month Contest Winner is…Jared Davis from Elkhorn, CT.. Jared's "My Little Faces" buttons were created for area anime and My Little Pony themed meetings. They sold out of the designs they brought to a recent local meet-up - selling 250 buttons at the event. "We have already turned a net-profit on our investment in the 1¼" Bench Press System and couldn't be happier with the purchase and the product!" Jared said.

As the Hot Button of the Month winner, Jared received a $100 Badge-A-Minit gift certificate.

August's Hot Button of the Month Contest Winner is…Chelsea Bester from Knoxville, TN.. These "Vintage Upcycle Buttons" are made from antique ads, photos and prints and turned into fashion buttons. Chelsea uses vintage bride images for bridal gifts, antique toy ads for baby showers and also gives buttons as hostess gifts.

"I have some really great fashion prints from as early as the 1880s and on through the 1960s," Chelsea said. "Every body loves them in my Etsy shop."

As the Hot Button of the Month winner, Chelsea received a $100 Badge-A-Minit gift certificate.

July's Hot Button of the Month Contest Winner is…M Tyler Batchelder from Methuen, MA.. This button was designed and distributed to help build a fan base and support for a band that M Tyler loves called Steam Powered Giraffe. Friends and fans wear them on jackets, shirts and backpacks. "Nearly all of them have come back asking for more because they gave theirs to a curious stranger," he said.

As the Hot Button of the Month winner, M Tyler received a $100 Badge-A-Minit gift certificate.

June's Hot Button of the Month Contest Winner is…Patty Buchanan from Seattle, WA.. Patty designed the "Please Wash Your Cloth Bags" button to raise awareness that tons of bacteria are found on cloth re-usable grocery bags. The cloth bags harbor germs that can get passed along to other customers and employees.

"I made a button for myself and wore it to work, then about two dozen cashiers commented on it," said Patty. "I made one for each of them. Now I carry a bag full of them and give one to anybody who wants one!"

Patty notes that since her city has banned plastic bags, more people will be using the re-usable ones, thus making it more important than ever for people to be aware of the hazard.

May's Hot Button of the Month Contest Winner is…Laura Wilkins from Summit Piano Studio in Fayetteville, AR.. Laura has been using Badge-A-Minit buttons for piano studio incentives since 2007. "My students get a button, which they pin on their piano bag,each time they participate in an event," said Laura. "Some have a LOT of buttons!"

April's Hot Button of the Month Contest Winner is…Freda Luers from Terra Haute, IN.. ISU's Hulman Memorial Student Union Board used this design with an Earth Day theme to bring awareness to their annual Spring Week programs. "Our attendance at the events was increased due to the different promotional items, including the buttons," said Freda. "Students really enjoy receiving buttons from our committee to advertise the events."

As the Hot Button of the Month winner, Freda received a $100 Badge-A-Minit gift certificate.

March 2012 Hot Button of the Month Winner!


March's Hot Button of the Month Contest Winner is…Herbert Gross from Elgin, IL.. Herbert made these "Fairy Godmother" buttons for volunteers working at Cinderella's Closet. The annual event helps high school girls get accessories, a prom dress and on-site alterations for a $5 optional donation.

"Over 500 girls arrived at the event and it was estimated that over 90% went home with full accessories, purse, jewelry and shoes, as well as the dress," Herbert said. "One hundred fifty Fairy Godmother buttons were distributed to volunteers!"

Herbert noted that donations of dresses were solicited from companies and individuals, and more than 5000 dresses were available!

As the Hot Button of the Month winner, Herbert received a $100 Badge-A-Minit gift certificate.

February's Hot Button of the Month Contest Winner is…Kimberly McKinney from Larned, KS.. A runner-up in the January contest, Kimberly submitted "The Patriot" design this month and won! She made this as a conversation piece, for St. Patrick's Day and to support Irish/American pride.

Kimberly bought shamrock seeds from Ireland and raised them in America "just as many of us come from Irish backgrounds but are raised American."

"This is my test button. I used it to gauge interest and opinion before I made more, and got lots of great feedback," Kimberly said. "Some people didn't like the slogan, so I made an alternative button that says 'Irish Provenance American Heritage' for those who wanted something more sophisticated."

Kimberly will be making more buttons just in time for St. Patrick's Day! As the Hot Button of the Month winner, Kimberly received a $100 Badge-A-Minit gift certificate.

January's Hot Button of the Month Contest Winner is…Jihye Lee from Pasadena, CA.. Jihye designed the "Corgi Smile!" button for friends who had graduated from the Art Center College of Design in December and were feeling the pressures of deadlines, job applications, and plain old stress.

"I designed this button to remind everyone that stressful times pass, and that it is more important to enjoy life in the now," Jihye said. "That way you can look back and remember all the smiles you've had and shared with your friends."

Jihye noted that "each person I gave the button to instantly had a smile on their face!" Mission accomplished!
