June 2011 Hot Button Winners

June 2011 Hot Button Winners

Congrats to our
June 2011 Hot Button of the Month Winner!

June’s Hot Button of the Month Contest Winner is…Nadia Tran from Philadelphia, PA.. Nadia’s "Once Upon A Time" button is dedicated to writers and features a background that resembles a rough draft of a story written back in the day. Nadia created her own textures to make the design unique.

"This button holds a lot of meaning to me," said Nadia. "The coffee stain represents the countless hours the author was awake to write. The condition of the paper represents how the world has preserved literature and how we have passed it on over time."

To create this specific design, Nadia retyped a passage from her teacher in an old-fashioned font, then created the paper and coffee texture for the background.

As the Hot Button of the Month winner, Nadia received a $100 Badge-A-Minit gift certificate.

"Each button will be numbered to recognize the number of members who participate," said Kevin.

Moses

Shedona Nash of Brampton, ON, submitted the Moses design on behalf of P.L.U.G Youth Group from Islington Evangel Centre. The group is raising funds for a Missionary Trip to Barbadoes in August and is hosting a Parking Lot Sale featuring slightly used items and youth-crafted items including the button. The sale hadn't been held yet, but Shedona noted that reactions have been great and people are anxiously awaiting the sale to buy their Moses button!

Rebel Crafters

Shanna Steals of Limoges, Ontario, Canada, designed this logo for the 'craftivist' group, Rebel Crafters, that she founded in 2010. Rebel Crafters is a group of crafters who craft to learn, to teach, to support a cause - and because they love to create! Shanna notes that the buttons help promote their group during various fundraisers and craft shows for a cause. The group has been involved this year in raising funds for JEARS (Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue Support).

4-H Summer Camp 2011

Marian Welty from Riverside County 4-H Summer Camp created this series of buttons for the 2011 Summer Camp. Each one represents a group of counselors and campers with the name of their group, their pirate flag and their group color. Marian noted that the buttons play a huge role in their camp every year as they serve as name badges. If anyone forgets to wear their button or loses it, they have to do something silly in front of the camp. Marian also noted that they have been using Badge-A-Minit buttons and button makers for over 20 years! Thank you, Riverside County 4-H Summer Camp, for your continued support of our buttons!

Vampire Moon

Kirby Owens of Covington, Kentucky, makes buttons for fun. He made "Vampire Moon" to give to his friends who are Twilight fans. "I extended the Twilight concept by splitting the face into 2 parts. If you cover half of it you can see a crescent moon or a half moon, depending on which side you cover," Kirby said. Kirby draws his designs on the computer using the Paint Tool Sai with a Wacom tablet, then finishes the layering and editing in Photoshop.
