August’s Hot Button of the Month Contest Winner is…Chris Evans from Goldendale, WA.. Chris made this "Demolition Derby 2011" button to improve local awareness of the Goldendale Jaycees participation in the annual event.

"In recent years, the event’s following has tapered off and has attracted fewer participants,” Chris said. “My hope was to improve local awareness and provide something extra to my team’s sponsors."

Chris noted that the sponsors were impressed – and the team’s popularity improved enough to earn them second place in the People’s Choice Awards! Plus Chris has already been asked to make buttons for next year’s event.

As the Hot Button of the Month winner, Chris received a $100 Badge-A-Minit gift certificate.

Amazing Improvement Audrey Dugan from Englewood, NJ, sent in the Amazing Improvement button, which is one of a series of a Award buttons she is designing for a high school professor. We loved how the colors blend to look metallic!

#1 Just Like Hydrogen Mahesh Alur from Charles A Tindley Accelerated School in Indianapolis, IN, submitted this 'scientific' button. "When my students in Chemistry performed well, I gave them this button to recognize their performance. Hydrogen has one electron, which is shown in the design," said Mahesh. "My students love them and they keep them long after they've left my class! Students from different classes trade the different styles that I've made. The buttons are a great incentive."

Dock Road Crab Shack Dave Palatucci submitted this "Dock Road Crab Shack" button design, which is actually a magnet. "I did this for a local business. It's my third design for them, they have been getting great feedback from my magnets," said Dave. He uses this design for pin-backs, magnets and spinbacks, and may expand to include key chains in the future. We thought the glued-on googley eyes were a great addition!

Avery's Angels Robin Smith from Centreville, MD, made this button to assist in fundraising efforts for Avery's Angels, a Foundation that was created in memory of a young girl who passed away as a result of a car accident. "I own a buttonmaker for fun not for business," said Robin. Robin notes that it is quite exciting to see something you've created be in such high demand and be able to assist a worthwhile cause.
